For some people shopping is a kind of housework, for others it is the way to have fun and relax. And it is difficult to say definitely which place is better to do shopping- a small corner shop or a supermarket - as there are advantages and disadvantages of both types of shops.
To begin with, supermarkets are more convenient as they offer a wider choice of products at lower prices. You can buy there anything you want from food to clothes and electronics.
In addition, they provide full day fun for all the family with cinemas, cafes and amusements for children. But on the other hand, there are also some disadvantages. Firstly, in supermarkets some products such as meat, fish, fruit and vegetables are not always fresh. Secondly, frequent promotions in shopping centers encourage people to buy unnecessary goods. And thirdly, people usually must wait a long time, standing in the queue to a cash register.
Therefore, there are people who prefer to buy everything in small local shops. Such shops are closer, so people don’t have to waste their time to get to them. Their staff usually knows most of the customers and may advise them what to buy.
Besides, small shops often sell items which are made locally and aren't available elsewhere, so you may find something really original and unusual. However, there are also some disadvantages of doing shopping in small shops, because the choice of goods is less than in supermarkets and opening hours are usually shorter.
As for me, my choice of shop depends on what I am going to buy. I often go shopping for clothes to shopping centers during sale seasons, but I prefer to buy fresh products like meat, fruit and vegetables from small local shops.
In conclusion I want to say that every person should evaluate the negative and positive sides of local shops and supermarkets and give a try to both kinds of shops.
