Thank you for your letter. It was great to hear from you again. I’m sorry I haven’t answered earlier because I was really busy with my exams.

In your letter you’ve mentioned about healthy lifestyle. What about me, I do sport every morning to keep myself in shape. Everyone has their own opinion on this question, but I think that a long walk down the street can help you stay healthy and strong. I believe that healthy lifestyle definitely change your life because you will be able to live happily up to a hundred years.

As I’ve heard you’ll travel to the seaside. Which country are you going to visit? Will you travel alone or with someone? Will you take the train or the plane?

Anyway, I have to go now, because I have lots of homework to do.

Nowadays many people face difficult decision when they have to choose whether it is better to read a book or to see a film, which is based on it.

But all the same, there are clear benefits and drawbacks to both opinions.

My personal view is that reading is an essential part of our life and we can not live without it. First of all, I would like to emphasise that if we did not read, we will not be able to understand the motives of people's behaviour and who they really are. Secondly, I consider that without this activity people of our country would be illiterate. Finally, I can say that in spite of having an internet in our house, reading can not be replaced by other things.

Nevertheless, some people believe that watching a film is more attractive than just reading a book. Humans are convinced that it takes a lot of time to read it fully. Some of them sure that they would rather watch a film, which lasts 1.5 or 2 hours instead of reading a novel, which has 600 pages. I can not agree with this statement because a book is an important part of the human being. Without it the world would be dark and empty for the humanity.

In summary, I believe that watching a film is a great pastime but for me reading no less important because the story in the book is more original and has a lot of details in it. But it is up to you to decide which kind of activity is better for you.

Комментарий к эссе:

1. Необходимо выразить мнение полностью с двух противоположных точек зрения.

Some people believe that it is better to read a book rather than watch a film, while others prefer not to spend their time on reading if they have an opportunity to watch a film with the same plot.

2. Первый аргумент нелогичен и не раскрыт, создается вопрос, каким образом чтение помогает нам понять поведение людей.

Второй имеет место быть, но можно более подробно описать роль чтения в повышении грамотности человека:

Secondly, reading makes our brains work. It develops literacy and make people more intelligent and educated.

Третий аргумент также не раскрыт. Нужно сказать, что чтение нельзя заменить интернетом, так как оно развивает уникальные навыки поиска информации и умение выделять основную информацию из большого объема текста, например.

3. Противоположная точка зрения хорошо сформулирована, достаточно развернуто.

4. Возражение противоположной точке зрения не подкреплено аргументом и не вынесено отдельным абзацем, поэтому его нельзя засчитать. В возражении можно было сказать:

Reading promotes our creativity and imagination that is why it cannot be replaced by movies.

5. Вывод должен содержать итог рассуждений, а продолжение дискуссии. Из него лучше убрать аргумент (…because the story in the book is more original and has a lot of details in it) и фразу «But it is up to you to decide which kind of activity is better for you», т. к. вывод предполагает подтверждение мнения автора эссе. Можно написать:

I am strongly convinced that there is no film that can replace a good book.
