The problem of preserving the human individuality is the question Y. Lotman discusses. (Ñî÷èíåíèÿ ÅÃÝ àíãëèéñêèé ÿçûê)

The problem of preserving the human individuality is the question Y. Lotman discusses.

The author, discussing the eternal problems of mankind: the love between a man and a woman, the relationship between parents and children, the inevitability of death - tells with alarm that today the problem of loss of human individuality has become especially acute. The reason for this is the disproportion between "spiritual needs and interest in things." In modern society, according to Yu. Lotman, human individuality manifests itself only in "spiritual products", and not in things that are the same for all.

Yu. Lotman is sure that "the lower the level of spiritual culture, the fewer individuals", people are more similar to each other.

It is difficult not to agree with the opinion of the author.

Indeed, today we are outwardly so similar that it might seem that we are "stamped" on the conveyor in huge editions. Only spirituality develops in a person a person.

A striking example is Yevgeny Zamyatin's novel We. Before us are people who do not have names, but wear "number", they do not have a personal life, there is no love. A woman has no right to give birth to a child: the children are "produced" in a special factory ... Naturally, the characters of Zamyatin are unspiritual, devoid of individuality.

We, modern people, no one assigns a "number", does not forbid loving, giving birth to children ... And how we resemble each other! On the Internet I got acquainted with the results of the poll of young Muscovites and was amazed at how equally they represent their future. Almost everyone has a dream about a house with a blue pool, a chic car, a beautiful wife ... Boring and sad!

Thus, it can be concluded that Y. Lothman, who raises the problem of loss of individuality by modern Russians, is right.
