Getting to know about famous landmarks before visiting them is a debatable issue. Some people believe that it is essential to be informed about places of interest in advance, whereas others prefer getting acquainted with them during excursions. Whether to be aware of historical data of popular tourist attractions or not is an individual decision.
It seems to me that it is important to read about places people are going to visit beforehand. To begin with, travelling starts with making a journey plan which includes different sightseeings. While preparation people begin reading about them and learn historical information. Moreover, it is useful to know historical reference because people can understand more about the role and importance of historical objects.
For example, it is advisable to read about a writer’s past before visiting a museum built in his honour. Furthermore, information support is not always provided on sites. That is why, seeing a historical landmark without its basic knowledge is useless.
However, there is an opposing opinion. Some people prefer getting the first impression and information about places of interest just at the site. Firstly, people do not have enough time to prepare for travelling. Secondly, many people book excursions and tour guides because it is quick and convenient. Besides, tourists can trust information provided by tour guides.
Despite the arguments mentioned above, I still believe that being prepared for sightseeing enables a tourist to ask questions to a tour guide in order to clarify uncertain points. Finally, a traveller looks more educated if he is informed in advance.
To sum it all up, I would like to say that there are two different opinions on this issue, but I am convinced that all people should be aware of history and cultural heritage before going sightseeing.
