39 и 40. Interpersonal communication is not just about what is actually said- but how it is said and the non-verbal messages sent through tone of voice, facial expression, gestures and body language (Сочинения ЕГЭ английский язык)

October 29th, 2017

Dear Amy,

Thanks for your letter! Sorry for not being in touch for so long- I was very busy this month.

In your letter you asked me what are the main pastime activities of youth in Russia. They are spending time with friends, going to shopping centres and working. I personally would like to go hiking but it’s not possible I am afraid because the weather is too bad and I don’t have a lot of free time for that.

By the way, what’s your typical pastime activity? Can you call it healthy or helpful for you? Do you share it with friends or do it alone? But I have to go now! It’s time for the evening walk with my dog.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Through time interpersonal communication developed along with human nature and became more complex. Now non-verbal messages has as much and sometimes more meaning than words.

I personally think that facial expressions, body language should be taken in attention with all seriousness while talking. Firstly, they can tell you real intentions and emotions of a person despite what he says you in the face. It happens because the special look in the eyes or strange moving of hands are done unconsciousness and mostly cannot be controlled. Secondly, some people put great meaning and effort in supportive gestures to their speech because they are emotional and want to express and translate their feeling to others in as many ways as possible including non-verbal gestures.

Other people claim that it is mauveton to use facial expressions, gestures in public because it means a person has a small lexicon and he cannot fully express his thoughts and emotions in words.

I cannot agree with this opinion because many people use non-verbal messages despite being very educated and there is no shame in that. It happens because gestures are a supportive method to express the slightest hints of thoughts and feelings and they make speech more vivid, deep, complex and natural.

To sum up, the matter of non-verbal messages is still open to discussion but I believe we should not be afraid to use and understand gestures as they bring the whole new meaning to what is said.
