The question of whether public libraries are gradually losing their popularity and they can disappear in the nearest future will always be controversial. Although many people think that libraries are in danger of disappearing owing to the lack of popularity, others disagree.
In my opinion, public libraries are not so popular nowadays. Firstly, as people have access to the Internet, they prefer staying at home rather than going somewhere to get the information they want. They search it on the Internet, immediately getting a result. Libraries are not so popular due to their inconvenience. Secondly, nowadays, books in libraries can be outdated. It makes them useless in some researches connected with new information. There are plenty of new books, but, unfortunately, they are not available in public libraries.
That is why we do not go to a library often.
However, not all people are ready to share my point of view. They claim that a library is a place where you can concentrate on your studies better than anywhere else. Every time you go to a library, you see plenty of students. It means that they are still popular among people who like to change the atmosphere to get a productive studying session.
I cannot fully agree with the statement above. Nowadays, libraries are replaced by coffee houses. Students prefer them to public libraries because they like the atmosphere of small cafes and people surrounding them. They cannot handle rivalry and disappear.
To sum up, even though libraries are not so popular now, they still can find their visitors. Nevertheless, they tend to disappear due to the lack of popularity and new technologies.
