Essay (248 words):

My project focuses on which social networks teenagers in Zetland prefer for communication, as this reflects their digital habits and social priorities. The table provides revealing data on teenage user percentages for five major platforms.

According to the poll, Instagram leads with 33%, closely followed by Snapchat at 32%. These two platforms dominate, capturing nearly two-thirds of teenage users. In stark contrast, Facebook accounts for only 5%, and Twitter is the least popular at just 3%. This shows a clear generational shift away from traditional social media toward more visual and ephemeral content.

Interestingly, TikTok, with 27%, is not far behind the top two. This suggests that short-form video is becoming increasingly important for teen communication, though it has not yet overtaken Instagram or Snapchat. The gap between the leaders and Facebook/Twitter is striking – over 25 percentage points – indicating that older platforms have largely lost relevance among Zetland’s youth.

However, heavy social media use can lead to problems such as addiction, anxiety, and cyberbullying. One effective solution is introducing digital wellness tools, such as screen time reminders and parental controls, alongside school programmes that teach responsible online behaviour.

In my opinion, social media is essential for modern teenagers. It helps them maintain friendships, express creativity, and stay informed. Instagram and Snapchat have become the new public squares for their generation. Nevertheless, without mindful use, these benefits can turn into harm. Therefore, while social networks are indispensable, teenagers must learn to use them wisely to protect their mental health and real-life connections.
