Nowadays there are a lot of big cities. Some people think that the growth of cities is harmful for the environment and others disagree with them.

In my opinion, the growth of cities is rather harmful for the environment. Firstly, we need a lot of natural resources to build a new city. Some of them are not renewable. Secondly, a big city produces a large amount of garbage, and people need to recycle it somewhere, but often they just make a dump. Dumps significantly influence on the ecology. Thirdly, a lot of forests are being cut to let big cities grow.

However, some people are convinced that the growth of cities is not harmful for the environment. They prove their opinion saying that people have modern technologies, which allow us to build big cities without polluting the environment.

For example, we can use ecological materials for new buildings. They also say that cars as the most pollutive element of the big city can be more ecological nowadays too.

Nevertheless, I cannot agree with the opposite opinion. Modern technologies are expensive, and not everyone will spend money on them. It is for much more cheaper to use plastic than glass, for example. Moreover, electric cars, which are more eco-friendly, are quite expensive, and some countries cannot provide careless using of these cars.

To sum up, I think that people do not understand how harmful is the growth of cities for the environment.
