How many holidays do you have and when?

Schoolchildren in Russia have four holidays during the year. The longest holidays are summer holidays. They start at the end of May or at the beginning of June and finish on the first of September. In the middle of autumn we have autumn holidays, they are just one week long.

In winter we have winter holidays, they are two weeks long. Winter holidays start at the end of December and finish in the middle of January. Finally, we have one-week-long spring holidays in the middle of spring.

What do you like to do when you are on holiday?

When I am on holiday, I do a lot of things that I do not have time for during school days. It also depends on the season. As for summer holidays, I usually spend them in the country. I go there together with my family. In my village I like to swim in the warm blue river, fish on the lake, go to the forest, ride my bike, catch frogs and eat my grandmother's pancakes. On autumn holidays I like to sleep, read interesting books and watch exciting films. During winter holidays I like to ski, skate, play snowballs and make snowmen with my friends and, of course, celebrate New Year and Christmas. On spring holidays I prefer to spend a lot of time outdoors. I go for long walks, meet my friends, take beautiful photos and enjoy pleasant spring weather.

Where do you go on holiday?

On autumn and spring holidays I usually do not go anywhere because they are short and I do not have enough time to leave my town. On winter holidays I sometimes travel somewhere with my parents. For example, we can travel to Saint Petersburg or Moscow because those are big cities with a lot to see and do. And on summer holidays I normally go to the country with my relatives.
