In our modern world technological progress has caused the appearance of e-books so a lot of people believe the public libraries are becoming less popular and they will soon disappear.

In my opinion, the vanishing of public libraries is impossible in the near future. To begin with, many people prefer reading paper books because they like the feeling of holding a real one and the odor of old books’ pages. Secondly, there are numerous e-books on the Internet but some rare archaic editions can be found only in libraries. Finally, a library is a good place to relax and meet new friends.

However, not all people share my point of view and they think it is obviously that libraries will soon disappear. Their first argument is that it is not convenient to go to the library when you want to read a book because you can find a novel on the Internet not living your home. Besides, nowadays only a few people spend their free time reading while there are a lot of different kinds of entertainment.

Despite my respect for this opinion, I cannot share it.

Firstly, it happens frequently that there is no appropriate climate for reading in someone’s home so people prefer going to the library because nobody makes noises and disturbs there. Moreover, notwithstanding the fact that the number of people has recently decreased, certain people will always be fond if reading.

To conclude, I would like to say that public libraries are still useful for many people and they will not soon disappear.
