It goes without saying that a child's education should be balanced. A balanced education involves learning different aspects of a subject. Music education is no exception. There is an opinion that music classes should cover different aspects of music education: from studying classics to learning to play a musical instrument. Some people agree others say that there is no need to change the concept of today's music classes.
In my opinion, modern music education should be improved by making music classes more varied. First of all, it makes education more balanced. If children are not only taught theory but also practice playing musical instruments, they develop both halves of the brain, which contributes to their successful development. Moreover, it is important to teach a child how to express himself. Music classes are a great opportunity for that, that is why studying classics is not enough, children should practice as well.
However, some people disagree. They claim that teaching a child to play a musical instrument is unnecessary. It takes a lot of time and effort to learn to play an instrument, therefore it should not be a part of music classes. It could be an additional class, but it is not essential and is not needed on a daily basis.
I do not agree with the opposing opinion. I think that it is not necessary to teach a child to play musical instruments on a high level, but that does not mean that we should take away the opportunity to learn the basics of playing and practice their skills.
All in all, today's music education requires some adjustments. We teach children only theory, but practice is no less important. Thus, to make a child's education more balanced, music classes should become different.
