In the modern world, there are different ways of entertainment: from movie theatres to music concerts. There are also opera and ballet, which are believed to be appreciated only by certain people. Some agree with it, others claim that there are no criteria you have to meet to be eligible for listening to an opera.
In my opinion, it's essential to understand opera and ballet in order to enjoy them, therefore, they're not for everyone. Firstly, when you listen to an opera, you need to have background knowledge. If you come unprepared, unaware of the plot, you're less likely to enjoy the performance. Secondly, historically, opera and ballet have been entertainments for the selected few. In the past, only members of higher society could afford to see such performances and understand them.
Nowadays, they are still very expensive and can be comprehended only by certain people.
However, some people believe that opera and ballet can be enjoyed by anyone. Today, we have resources to get prepared, for instance, read the plot on the Internet. But even that is not necessary, as the plots are often well-known.
I don't think that opera and ballet are for everyone. All forms of art have their own admirers, opera and ballet are no exception. I'm convinced that you can enjoy the performance only if you are prepared for it.
To sum up, although nowadays we have plenty of opportunities to prepare for viewing performances like opera and ballet, those are not entertainments for everyone. But if you're going to see a performance, do the research first, and then you can enjoy the show.
