The question of how useful was the start of exploring the space in the 20th century is obviously a debatable one. Much can be said in support of both “Yes” and “No” answers. In my essay paper, I would like to weigh up two alternatives.
For a start, there were a lot of scientific breakthroughs in the last century. Electrification, the invention of the Internet and X-ray are remarkable examples. It is incredibly difficult to choose which one made the greatest impact.
Furthermore, space exploration was and still is very expensive.
Thinking otherwise, space traveling should not be underestimated. The first flight proved that people could survive in the cosmos and explore it as well. People are now capable to know the other planets better and improve the knowledge of astronomy. And last but not the least, satellites launching affected our life greatly in many spheres such as the Internet, TV-broadcasting and so on.
I would agree with all that was said before, but I still want to stand my ground by saying – there were too many important achievements in science in the 20th century to decide which of them was the best. Except for the satellites, space exploration does not have a positive impact on our nowadays lives yet. Common people are not able to take part in it. Why rushing into traveling to other planets if we have a lot of problems concerning ours? Is not it better to spend this huge amount of money on searching for a way to cure cancer or AIDS, or help people in need?
By way of conclusion, I admit that space exploration was a big step for humanity to its bright future, but I cannot say it was the most marvelous discovery people have made recently.
