The growth of cities is harmful for the environment пример (Сочинения ЕГЭ английский язык)

Nowadays the growth of cities on our planet rises very fast. So, some people believe that the problem has no negative consequences to the nature, while others think that it is really harmful.

To my mind, the increasing number of cities certainly has some bad effects to the environment. Firstly, people who live there start to produce more waste. Unfortunately, it is not always recyclable, and sometimes we have to leave it anywhere in a field or forest. Secondly, factories and cars emit harmful fumes which pollute the atmosphere and cause global warming. Finally, people need some space to build more houses, schools and hospitals, so we have to cut down trees destroying natural habitats of many animals.

However, some people have an opposing opinion.

They claim that it is possible to build eco-cities or make other ones more environmentally friendly by introducing special laws that will encourage people to recycle more or use convenient public transport.

Nevertheless, I cannot agree with the opponents’ opinion. The point is that governments of many countries are still not caring about the future of our planet, so they do not even try to raise public awareness of environmental problems and solve them effectively.

To sum up, though the problem of growing number of cities is rather controversial, I strongly believe that nowadays its harmful effects cannot be reduced greatly, and that is why we are to try to find new ways to do it.
