Some of my friends say there's nothing better than reading a good book while others would rather watch its film version (Ñî÷èíåíèÿ ÅÃÝ àíãëèéñêèé ÿçûê)

There are many people keen on reading books, while others choose their film version instead.

In my opinion, reading is better than its screen adaptation. To start with, every book describes a character’s feelings, which is nearly impossible in films. We can only guess what a movie hero might have in mind. Additionally, a film based on the book is unable to reflect the writer’s view. It will be the image of a director, but the original picture exists only in an author’s imagination. Moreover, a good book widens a reader’s vocabulary. Language of book lovers is far more beautiful. It is full of metaphors, idioms and bright expressions, what films cannot teach, because they show mostly a picture, not long speeches.

However, there is another point of view. Films are better than books because they show a visual version of words and sentences on paper.

Thus, people have a full conception of a storyline and they understand each twist of plot, seeing what is happening.

I cannot agree with this opinion because a book’s author depicts occurrences, scenes and landscapes with special words which represent a certain mood. These descriptions are interpreted in a reader’s thoughts differently, whilst in a film we see what the producer sees, which can even confuse viewers.

To sum up, although films have their advantages, I am sure books cannot be replaced by movies and reading is better compared with cinema.
